Marie Studer lives in Castleconnell, Co. Limerick. She grew up on a small farm outside Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.  She has a BA in Comparative Literature, History & Sociology from the University of Limerick. She commenced her working life in banking, worked in the home during her children’s early years and recently retired after 26 years in Palliative Care and Older Persons Services.

Her collection Real Words was published by Revival Press in October, 2023 of which Donal Ryan, author, said

All of the vast declensions of existence between life and death are witnessed with Marie’s unerring artist’s eye and sublimated in devastatingly precise, original and gleaming language into art. Marie heeds the call of Heaney to all poets to ‘let go, fly, forget’, to ‘let others wear the sackcloth and the ashes’, and to ‘write for the joy of it.’

Her work has been widely published in journals and anthologies at home and abroad, including: The Stony Thursday Book, The Ogham Stone, The Honest Ulsterman, The Storms, Drawn to the Light Press, Live Encounters, Spill Words, The Galway Review, Here Comes Everyone, Spilling Cocoa Over Martin Amis.  She won the Trocáire Poetry Ireland Competition 2020 and was among the winners of the Bangor Ekphrastic Poetry Challenge in 2019 and 2021 and shortlisted in other competitions.
